New! Local Access to Preserflo Glaucoma Surgery in Northern Alberta
Dr. Behrooz Koucheki of the Northern Alberta Eye Surgery Clinic is now introducing Preserflo MicroShunt surgery at Grande Prairie Regional Hospital bringing this advanced glaucoma treatment to patients in Northern Alberta.
The Preserflo MicroShunt is a small, flexible tube implanted in the eye to help lower intraocular pressure (IOP) in patients with open-angle glaucoma. It creates a new drainage pathway for fluid, reducing pressure that can damage the optic nerve.
This procedure is intended for patients whose glaucoma is not well controlled with medications or laser treatments, offering a minimally invasive surgical option with a shorter recovery time, now available locally.
A minimally invasive implant that lowers eye pressure for patients with open-angle glaucoma is now available in Northern Alberta.
Patients in Alberta’s North Zone can now access Preserflo MicroShunt surgery for glaucoma locally, thanks to a new program led by Dr. Behrooz Koucheki of the Northern Alberta Eye Surgery Clinic, in collaboration with the Grande Prairie Regional Hospital (GPRH) OR team.
Following his successful introduction of iStent® surgery in the North Zone, Dr. Koucheki is now pioneering this next-generation, minimally invasive glaucoma procedure in the region.
The Preserflo MicroShunt helps lower intraocular pressure in patients with open-angle glaucoma, reducing the need for medication and eliminating the need to travel for advanced care.
