Eylea® Intravitreal Injections (IVIs)

Eylea (aflibercept) is a widely used and effective treatment for several retinal conditions that can lead to vision loss. Delivered through intravitreal injections (injections into the gel-like substance inside the eye), Eylea helps preserve and even improve vision in many patients with serious retinal diseases.

Eylea works by blocking a protein called VEGF (vascular endothelial growth factor), which can cause abnormal blood vessel growth and leakage in the eye. By inhibiting VEGF, Eylea reduces swelling, prevents further damage, and helps maintain healthy vision.

Conditions Treated with Eylea:

  • Wet Age-Related Macular Degeneration (AMD) – a leading cause of vision loss in people over 60

  • Diabetic Macular Edema (DME) – swelling in the retina due to diabetes

  • Diabetic Retinopathy (DR) – damage to the retinal blood vessels in diabetic patients

  • Retinal Vein Occlusion (RVO) – blockage of veins in the retina leading to swelling and vision changes

What to Expect During Treatment:

  • Eylea is administered as an injection into the eye, usually in a clinic setting

  • The eye is numbed beforehand to ensure minimal discomfort

  • The procedure takes only a few minutes and is typically well tolerated

  • Injections are usually given every 4 to 8 weeks, depending on your condition and response to treatment.

Benefits of Eylea:

  • Proven to stabilize or improve vision in the majority of patients

  • Helps reduce retinal swelling and prevent further vision loss

  • Treatment is quick, with minimal downtime and a low risk of complications

  • Eylea is an important tool in preserving sight for patients with retinal conditions. Regular follow-up and treatment are essential for the best outcomes.
